Last August when I went to Zion Nat'l Park, I realized I was very close
to an animal sanctuary that I had admired for many years. I had the
opportunity to visit this place and was amazed at what I found. Quite
honestly, I expected a layed-back atmosphere with happy animals
running around. I did find happy animals (dogs, cats, pigs, donkeys,
horses, rabbits...) but this place was by far, the most professionally
run animal shelter that I had ever seen.....
Thoughts of Haiti quickly surfaced as I came upon this image in my archives.
How does a country survive such pain and loss?
How do any of us survive the unfathomable and continue on?
It is truly a mystery how from deep within,
emerges the hope and belief that,
what is now excruciatingly empty,
someday, somehow...
WILL BE FULL .

Puppy Charm

Meet Millie... my parents' current tormentor and charmer.

When my "senior" parents recently lost their dog of 13 years, my siblings quickly encouraged them to get a new pal. Mind you, I thought an older dog would be perfect, matching the pace of my parents' lifestyle. But along came this bouncing, curious puppy with all her overwhelming, energetic charm. Of course, I use the word charm; my parents would call it otherwise. She has kept them hopping, jumping, cursing and "occasionally" laughing, as she tugs and digs her way through home and garden. (Don't worry, Mom & Dad, she'll outgrow this in a FEW years!)

A Week In The Arizona Desert

Recently seeking an entirely new environment, I found it in the Arizona Desert. Ironically, the landscape reminded me of the ocean here at home (California) in its vastness, sense of space and found serenity. It is a place that is profoundly quiet yet is abundant with life... cottontails, hawks, hummingbirds, lizards, wild pigs and more.

Bob (my husband) and I hiked many trails and were fortunate enough to witness one of the most beautiful sunsets I've ever seen. As we walked through the Hohokan Indian ruins, a storm came in just as the sun was setting. On that particular evening, I felt like I had found the gateway to the heavens in that gorgeous Arizona sky.
