As I walked among the orbs of orange, I couldn't help but ponder the critter who had left his paw tracks on one of these great pumpkins. Was this area a source of food and shelter for him or did he too, find the fields somewhat haunting? I'll never know because even when I returned home and looked in my mammal track book, it was difficult to identify the markings. Possibly a skunk or squirrel (rarely seen on the northern CA coast) but more probably, a BIG woodrat.
