California Red Tides — San Mateo Coast — 2009 I saw, for the 1st time here on the San Mateo Coast, what's called a "red tide." Quite eerie, to say the least! On Thursday, August 20, 2009, Bob arrived home from work and told me that "the ocean was red" so we dashed out quickly to watch this phenomenon.
